This challenge supports and celebrates life after racing while highlighting the importance of training methods and horsemanship.
Think you’ve got what it takes to retrain an OTT Thoroughbred?
Step up and prove it in this exciting, all-round challenge to be held at this year’s King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge.
The OTT Thoroughbred Re-trainers Challenge has the support of Racing NSW, Team Thoroughbred NSW and Mitavite, and aims to help shine a light on the versatility of the thoroughbred. The Challenge Includes:
• Bareback Obstacle Course (saddle optional)
• Pack Horse (lead or pack your OTTT – your choice!)
• Stock Handling
• Whipcrack
• Cross Country
• Obstacle Course Time-Trial Final
All courses are adapted from existing striplings’ courses
Horse Eligibility
Option 1: Use your own retired Racehorse
• Thoroughbreds must be officially retired from racing from March 2025 onwards
• Retirement must be verified with a Retirement of Horse Notification Form
Option 2: Team Thoroughbred Horse Selection
• Apply to receive a Team Thoroughbred horse to be selected on Sunday the 5th of April 2026
• Includes a 6-week trial period
• If unsuitable or injured, you may swap for another Team Thoroughbred horse
• Team Thoroughbred horses are exempt from retirement requirements but eligible for the $2,000 winner’s bonus!
